I can't add anything. Not a python nor C+++++ programmer.. And no access to provider's code (if I were able)....
HbbTV requests (demands) are also repeated continously!! No comment from you there..
Met één been in het graf..... Helaas

There is no need to access the providers code, the HbbTV specification is very clear. What is lacking is an open-source browser implementation.

All current implementations are closed source, licensed, and with a big question whether or not those licences are ever paid my the manufacturer. There were made once by the vendor (those that bothered), when the box was released, and after that never looked at.

Which means that they will start to fail if the providers implement newer versions of the spec (like trying to access a modern website with Internet Explorer 6).

Another issue is that they need Enigma integration (to provide in-page video, to play streams, to pass on keys and commands, etc), and this needs to be maintained when Enigma changes.

None of the teams can deal with the first point (as this is closed source, and buyware), teams that maintain their own BSP and have the skills could have a go at the second point.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

At start of HbbTV some manufacture used it with an licensed Opera browser.

I think there comes your confusion about HbbTV. An Chromium or QT browser with HbbTV you don't need any licenses

HbbTV is developed by some companies were you can been a member to get the HbbTV sources. The request not to redistribute so that's why most HbbTV plugins are still closed.

You see now as well more and more Opensource HbbTV projects. So maybe like https://github.com/k.../HybridTvViewer can been made compatibel with Enigma2 and I prefer QT as Chromium require lot more of the hardware.

The question is whether or not it was licenced. It was licensed software, yes, but if you have have a valid license, you get updates, etc. Never seen those, the Opera solution was a one-off.

There is no confusion on my part, I was responding to Mimisiku.

The HbbTV specification is public (https://www.hbbtv.or...#specifications), it is an ETSI specificiation, so it is perfectly possible to make a good Open Source solution for it.

My point there was that at the moment, a useful solution does not exist. I hope with you that it will change in the near future.

Another thing is that in the Netherlands for example HbbTV is end of live.... here in the Netherlands it has no added value... here we now need apps.
A real HbbTV solution is indeed use qt or so with an existing opensource project. But due to what I mentioned before for me it does not have added value. Also my time is limited now.
At this moment HbbTV is indeed a tender implemention as each tender has a different solution. An image created by Germans, in Germany HbbTV is still in use, are motivated to keep the different solutions alive with tricky tricks. When the opensource community did create a common HbbTV solution with a general browser which is less or not tender depended in the form of a general plugin we could adapt.
Actually for KODI the same ‘discussion’ can be made...

I miss HbbTV function :(

Here in Slovenia our national TV does use HbbTV and it is super handy. I have it on my isp iptv stb (i use it rarely) and I can access this app. Its great, you get access to their whole repository of movies, series, documentaries, news, etc.

I hope this will get fixed in near future.

Which box?’as actually it does depend on the support from a manufacturer. For some we support it.

VU+ needs to fix that, it is disabled in the build because it crashes.

And the providers have upgraded their HbbTV 2.0 once again. 115. functions added for noone to enjoy :)
HbbTV for Open boxes is dead. The providers have won this battle...

Correct.

HbbTV 1.5  is already outdated.

Here in Italy there is 2.0.2 since 2018 and even a large number of recent TV cannot use it.

Actually for KODI the same ‘discussion’ can be made...

Again the rant against Kodi...

You see, the on-demand archives of the national provider cannot be accessed because TV/STB is not updated/compatible.

A friend of mine, buddy OE dev since beginning, works at LG. Most models of this brand get regular updates.

(To be fair Samsung is not doing too bad, the others only pack some app in the flagship models and never update the firmware.)

So you see, the only workaround I know is Kodi.

This allows us in Italy to get the RAI REPLAY (note we citizens we all pay the subscription to RAI provider).

To get another popular one, TIMVision, we need  kodi 18.

So again, please stop with the lame rant about Kodi users, VPN's  and obscure/illegal plugins: not everyone is a pirate.

My 2 cents

A.A.
